course objective

Learning methods and techniques for managing the complexity of mechatronic design.

target group

Technical project leaders, system architects and product designers.

starting level

Some experience in solving design problems.

target level

At the end of the course the students will be able to participate in multi-disciplinary design teams. They will have a number of discipline-independent techniques at their disposal that facilitate the communication in such teams.

final assignment

duration

This course lasts one day. There is no final presentation.

description

This course deals with techniques and methods for structurizing complex design processes. The course starts with an introduction of concepts. Then, existing design techniques from various disciplines are introduced and linked together.

Coming up are, amongst others: techniques from TRIZ (Teoriya Resheniya IzobretatelskikhZadatch) ‘the theory of solving inventor’s problems’, QFD (QualityFunction Deployment), selection matrices and selection strategies, FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) and DOE (Design Of Experiments).
